Media Lies
Our role as designers is as much creating applications, solving problems and adapting the existing as it is about providing a vision. Creating utopias or dystopias in order to crystallise the present. Instead of solving every detail, it is often more important to set a direction, propose where to start the solving.
Media Lies project deals with this inherent contradiction in design, especially present in technological field, as the underlying functions are increasingly obscured. To the layman our work may appear real magic. Where do we set the line between using technology to communicate an idea and to get the job done? Is the former a form of lying? Is the latter worth it, if the constraints render it impossible to make it as good as imagined?
This 2 week pressure project consisted of two halves: First week, create a believable media lie, a liminal technology that could almost be. Second, envelope it to a medial representation, a website, news article, TV spot etc.
Here you will find the outcome of this thought provoking, often humorous, often controversial project. The boundary between reality and fiction is blurring.

The term liquid bytes represents a concept of storing digital data in water molecule, developed by the Institute of Digital Science, Tokyo/Japan. By the use of a ultraviolet laser beam certain molecules of the water can be grouped into so called clusters. The way the molecules are grouped together in these unique clusters, serves as the codification of the particular information. website

It is proved that during the first three years human's life is shaped strongly in their development. People can reconstruct this time based on nostalgically clarified memories of relatives and the neat baby photos, but somehow the own picture is missing.
The new company Mnemosyne.com is now offering baby or child clothing with an integrated camera, operated with the warmth of the body which keeps the camera taking pictures as soon as something crucial is changing in the field of vision out of the babys personal point of view.

The Genesis© Game Editor is able to create entire levels for computer games by means of some variables. During seven simple steps the Game Editor generates the lighting mood, epoch, sky, geographical structures, vegetation, buildings, infrastructure like roads or bridges and finally exports all this to current game engines. Through this innovative conception it is no longer necessary to create every single object by modeling or texturing. As only trees or plants have learned to grow, now every game play-related property will be formed by the Genesis© Game Editor. The easy birth of your game.
