chatballs

A project by Tim Horntrich

»Chatballs« is an application for a visualtion of an intern "AIM Chat Room" at the UDK. It is supposed to be shown as an projection in the café and is also preinstalled on every UDK computer as a screensaver.

Gestaltung:

The basic idea of this visualisation is to get the user’s behavier into it. That’s why the chatball’s size, originating with every new message, is influenced by the amount of text the user has written. The more text is written, the bigger is the chatball and the less text is written, the smaller is the chatball. In order to simulate the input speed of the user the chatball’ s movement depends on the length of the text. More text needs more time to be written so bigger Chatballs are moving slower than smaller Chatballs.

Programming:

»Chatballs« is written in Processing Code and uses an AIM Libary to simulate an AIM User.
