Assignment

Create an object communicating with or enhancing an usual laptop (also in combination with custom software /content). The aim is to bring the laptop to a new function.


Concept

The laptop is transformed to a “Tipp-Kick” arena. Players are able to repeat the Football world cup finals 2006: France vs. Italy. He is starting at the dramatic moment of 4:5 for France. He‘s ment to be the determining shooter, playing the role of the french striker David Trezeguet, who missed the mark at that time. On the opposite side his opponent, the goal keeper Gianluigi Buffon. If he can keep a level head, he can save the honour of the tricolour and revenge the dishonour of Germany during the semi-finals against Italy.




Tipp-Kick

In the football nation Germany “Tipp-Kick” is a quite famous miniature football game with a long tradition. With a simple mechanic, the players figure kicks the ball – the power of the shot can be exactly adjusted by how strong the button is pushed. Simple, analog precision and a cheap cost price leveraged it to be a cult object. Already since the end of the 20‘s there are amateur associations, which in regular tournaments battle against each other during nerve-wrecking miniature games. The laptop

The FujitsuSiemens Lifebook is equipped with a touch screen, which means it has a sensitive screen surface reacting to tangency. On the laptop the Tipp-Kick player is heading vis-a-vis the Italian keeper, standing in his goal, in form of a flash application. If the shooter hits the screen with the physical ball (kicked by the mechanic of the Tipp-Kick figure), the computer registers the position of the contact point and compares it with the area of the goal and the position of the goalkeeper.




The field

A mask consisting of synthetic turf and marked with the penalty area is dropped on the laptops keyboard. The penalty spot is identical with the position of the laptops left mouse button next to the keyboard. If the player shoots by hitting the top of his figure, the button is also pressed and the application, which means the goalkeeper, receives the signal to jump for the ball. After the shot of the TippKick player, the computer simulates the result of Italy‘s shot by chance. Counters add both sides achieved penalties and if according to FIFA‘s rules a winner by advance of goals is certain, he - in any case it‘s France - is adequately celebrated in the credits.
